Horse Racing Tips 31st July

Well, the Weld show didn’t materialize as i’d imaged it would. Bet he continues the show today with a white wash of the card or something, knowing my luck.

Forget Galway today, onto Goodwood we go!

Dawn Approach 15:05 Goodwood 11/10 Bet365

What is there left to say about this horse, he completely flopped in the Epsom Derby for whatever reason (didn’t settle atall, for whatever reason he wasn’t enjoying himself, although many doubted he’d get the distance even if he was enjoying himself). He came back from such a disappointing run to win the St Jame’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot beating Toronado, who re-opposes today. This really is a two horse race with the market favoring Dawn Approach, who’s got the better of Toronado the last twice. This horse would be be unbeaten had it not run in the Derby, and i’d imagine his price would be a hell of alot shorter than the 11/10 on offer right now. A forecast (or even RFC) with Toronado should boost winnings nicely.

Excess Knowledge 14:30 Goodwood 15/8 Bet365

Jon Gosden is looking to win this race back to back (after Noble Mission won last year) with Excess Knowledge, a smart horse that found a strong listed event at Sandown last time too hot to handle (won by the french raider Mandour, Afsare 2nd, with Excess Knowledge a neck back in 3rd. That form alone gives this horse a MASSIVE chance of winning. The 2nd favourite Cap O Rushes did well to cling onto 4th after weakening in the final furlong in the Irish Derby a few weeks ago, but was no match for the eventual first 3 in the end. That is probably the best piece of form Cap O Rushes has, which, don’t get me wrong, is decent, but if the less exposed Excess Knowledge progresses as expected, he could have this in the bag quite easily.

Horse Racing Tips 30th July

It’s a shame Almaty couldn’t hold on yesterday, he put on an excellent showing to finish 3rd at 12-1. Phantom Ranch on the other hand continued his disappointing run by finishing well down the field in a race that connections thought he had a squeak in. Not sure what they’ll do with that horse now, he’s fallen out of love with the game it seems.

Today i am going to focus on the big G, no, not Goodwood, but Galway. The Weld show is well underway, and it’s time to jump onto the bandwagon as it rolls through all the bookmakers this week.

Tandem 18:45 Galway 9/2 William Hill

Let’s jump aboard the Weld train with this horse. This race as a whole is fiercely competitive, but Tandem won at the Galway Festival last year and produced his best effort yet when beating several of these when wearing the first time visor last time out (1m2f at Leopardstown). He’s up 9lbs for that win, but it may not be enough to stop him on his upward curve. The 2nd favourite Fortify is respected, he’s come out and won since, but i will most definately be focusing on Tandem here.

Diplomat 17:05 Galway 9/4 Stanjames

I’m not usually a fan of horses running less than 24 hours after their last race, but Diplomat won the first race of the Galway festival (yesterday) with something up his sleeve. If he does run, then i have complete faith in Weld thinking he’s in good enough condition to put up a real fight. He was bakced yesterday as if defeat was out of the question, and if he’s left in, i expect the same sort of betting activity today.

I wonder why no bookie priced up Weld to be top trainer? If they did he’d be incredibly short!

Friday Horse Racing Tips

Well well, a full house yesterday! The godolphin horse hosed up after a monster gamble on the eventual favourite went astray, love it. Also, Tapis Libre did us proud, you can’t fault his work rate, getting up in the dying strides over the well supported favourite Sky Kahn.

Today i’m going to stay loyal to a horse in form as usual.

Red Baron 3:50 Haydock 4/1 Willaim Hill

This should really be an each way bet to nothing. Before racking up a double, Red Baron finished 2nd in his previous 5 starts, an each way backers dream. He’s up 7lbs for his last win, but the jockey claims 3, which is a help. Two runs back he got the better of todays 2nd favourite Imperial Legend easily enough and should have a great chance of getting the hattrick today on everything we know.

There are some useful sorts in this race however, another hattirck seeker in Sleepy Blue Ocean and the fairly consistant Six Wives. So i doubt it’ll be plain sailing, although i am more than happy to put this up as one of the main bets for today, each way.

Fossola 3:35 Nottingham 9/4 William Hill

This is madness! I am tipping up a horse that has never raced. Why? Godolphin are quite literally on fire. This half sister to Dubai World Cup winner Moterosso is greatly respected on debut. Godolphin are really good at preparing a horse to win on debut, as shown countless times over the last month or so especially. Bonanza Creek is the obvious danger. Luca Cumani’s horse is well bred, and finished 4th on debut, there could easily be more to come from her. I will however stick with Fossola for small stakes, mainly to watch the race to see how well she runs, if she hoses up she could be a juicy notebook horse, along with so many of Godolphins 2 year olds.

Horse Racing Tips Thursday

Took the day off yesterday as i didn’t feel strongly about anything, but as it turns out a few of the bets i did actually came in! I should of put them up. I don’t like to aftertime, but Khothry getting up at Killarney at 6-1 on the line was rather nice..

Sadiq 15:50 Brighton 6/4 Stanjames

I have a massive soft spot for Godolphin horses at the moment, and you should do too. They are firing on all cylinders big time right now, and every runner should be given the upmost respect. Today Godolphin are represented at Brighton by Sadiq, a last time out winner. I must admit though, i know absolutely nothing about the jockey onboard, all i do know is he is claiming 7! So approach this with a little bit of caution, purely for this reason.

He’s potentially the classiest horse in the race and should run a great race if his jockey is up for it.

Tapis libre 18:10 9/4 Boylesports

As you well know, i love horses in form. This horse is no exception, as he goes for a 4 timer today. A close friend of mine has a rule that goes something like this

“3 wins on the bounce is ok, 4 is greedy”

I tend to ignore him, and some times it comes back to haunt me, but today i will most definitely be backing this horse regardless of his rule. Joanna Mason claims 5, and almost wipes out his 6lb hike in the weights for his latest win. Sky Khan is a worthy favourite, having scooted up last time at Leicester.

One thing that may put punters off backing this selection is the fact it’s a ladies amateur race. However, Tapis Libre has been almost exclusively campaigned in lad amateur races this year, maybe he prefers the gentle touch of a women? Who doesn’t.

Tipsy Tipster Monday Horse Racing Tips

The two horses i’m most interested in today at Jebel Tara and Ethel. I am still trying to come to terms with completely forgetting to put a bet on Jebel Tara when he ran a few days ago. 12-1 he returned and i was pre-occupied doing something else to notice, gutted. He’s a favourite of ours here at Betcirca, having racked up 7 out of his last 8 runs with victories.

Jebel Tara 10/3 Paddy Power 16:30 Ayr

Before i start talking about this horse, he’s up a further 6lbs for his latest half a length victory, which leaves him a little vulnerable. The plus side is Paul Pickard takes 3lbs off his back which should help quite a bit. I do have a soft spot for horses that continue to defy the handicapper, and Jebel Tara does just that. He’s versatile as well, having won at 6f through to 1m, on several different surface conditions. His main rival in the betting is True Pleasure who appeared out of nowhere to win his last race at 20-1, but the form has been franked with the 2nd winning since.. hmmmm.

Ethel 3-1 Paddy Power 20:00 Windsor

When reading into the form i thought Ethel was a standout betting proposition. After checking the odds available i noticed a massive difference of opinion between bookmakers for this horse. Paddy Power are a standout 3-1, while Skybet don’t want any of it, pricing him up at 2-1.

Ethel came 2nd in her maiden behind Plover, a horse that opened as favourite during the Coral Eclipse meeting then drifted like a barge from 2-1 out to 4-1, they couldn’t give it away, and it ran accordingly. She then headed to Doncaster and won her 2nd start (first on turf) with a decent turn of foot to get up by half a length after tracking the leaders throughout. This is only her third start, so with usual progression she could well have a great chance to follow up with another win today. She is up in grade from class 5 to 4, and up against likely potential improvers, so i’d keep stakes to a sensible level just incase.
