Sha Tin Preview 3rd May

HONG KONG RACING SUNDAY 3 May 1915

SHA TIN

The Champions Mile

Yet another sensation days racing at Sha Tin with the feature race being The Champions Mile. Certainly void of runners but it has been billed as the best miller in the world at current standings in “Able Friend” who has rose to an amazing ranking this season. Should be the one to beat once again as his form over this distance and up to 2000m is outstanding. However he comes up against the very talented “Luger” who won the Hong Kong Derby in very good fashion so he does have what you would expect to be a good test on his hands today. I do expect both going on the performances today will be racing in the UK when all the Group racing begins so it really is worth getting involved here and at least watching just how this race pans out. The last three races on the card also look very solid class races and will prove to be every entertaining. Have a great day and above all enjoy the card at Sha Tin.

Track and Conditions: Turf A+3 course and the track will be rated as good.

Expected Weather: Sunny Intervals with a few showers and a top temperature of 30 degrees so it will be on the humid side. Wind will be from the south to southwest at around the 20Km/h mark so there will be a slight tailwind down the straight which will only slightly assist closers but it should be a fairly even playing ground just the same.

Best Bet: Race 10 No 11 Lucky Year

Best Value: Race 11 No 4 Dashing Fellow

Best Exotic Races: Race No’s 9-10-11

Quaddie:-

Race 7: 1-3 Race 8: 1-10-3-6 Race 9: 11-1 Race 10: 3-4-5-10

Race 1: — Time: 4.30am GMT—Distance: 1200m—Griffin Race

Top Pick: No 3 Highland Hammers

Value Selection: No 6 Happy Chappy

Exotic Inclusions: No 9 Super Dragon and No 2 Eastern Express

Race Overview

Highland Hammer stuck on well behind Happy Chappy last start over the 1000m.Both have trained on very well since that first start. They meet again today over the extra ground and both have widish gates but it is a small field. He should be improved by that first up run and I expect there should not be too much between the top four here. Happy Chappy recorded a very nice win first up from a draw which was wide so he appears to have a bit of talent. Goes over the extra ground today and comes up with another wide draw in gate 9 but looks to be a nice type and can go well once again in a small field.

Race 2: — Time: 5.00am GMT—Distance: 1400m—Class 5

Top Pick: No 9 Jun Hao

Value Selection: No 1 Best Jade Triumph

Exotic Inclusions: No 4 On The Way and No Fantasticlife

Race Overview

Jun Hao certainly looks close to a win going on his current performances this season. He has never been far away and ran a very nice close up 3rd last start over this distance. Always has good hoops in the saddle and today is no exception with Douglas Whyte back in the saddle. Retains the same weight as he has been carrying all season and comes up with the rails draw so he should get a nice trail in the running. Best Jade Triumph always seems to go well at this class and distance and since dropping back in class this time he has gone close on all occasions. No real difference in the weights today. Comes up with a nice draw and should be well placed in the running and he also retains the master of the weave in Brett Prebble in the saddle.

Race 3: — Time: 5.30am GMT—Distance: 1000m—Class 4

Top Pick: No 1 Spitfire

Value Selection: No 10 Never Better

Exotic Inclusions: No 12 Peace Combination and No 8 Distinct Commander

Race Overview

Spitfire has never been far away recently since dropping back to this class and has not been over this distance since class three when he found it a bit much but at his class and from a very nice draw in gate 11 with Douglas Whyte in the saddle he has to come under strong consideration here. Never Better just the two starts in Hong Kong and does appear to be improving. Drops a touch in weight and comes up with a nice draw in gate 12 which is close in over this course. Retains regular hoop and would not have to improve too much to be a bit of a hope here in a fairly open race.

Race 4: — Time: 6.00am GMT—Distance: 1200m—Class 4

Top Pick: No 2 Happy Agility

Value Selection: No 9 Thewisardofoz

Exotic Inclusions: No 8 Regency Darling and No 11 Fun Tapestry / No 13 Bernard’s Choice

Race Overview

Happy Agility just the one start in Hong Kong and won well on that occasion with a very nice on paced performance over this distance at this class an d as a result goes up in the weights but does still look ok as he carries 127Lbs first up and has to be a consideration today going on his last start. Drawn wide today but has the speed to offset that. Retains Zac Purton in the saddle and goes in as another good chance today. Thewizardofoz is currently at just on or around each way but by start time may be favourite with Joao Moreira in the saddle despite drawing gate 14. His trials have been excellent and if drawn in closer he would certainly be hard to beat on those results. However he has good natural speed and should be able to cross into a forward position just the same. On trial form he looks a very nice type.

Race 5: — Time: 6.30am GMT—Distance: 1600m—Class 4

Top Pick: No 5 Joyful Moments

Value Selection: No 4 Young Ranger

Exotic Inclusions: No 12 Sparkling Sword and No 2 Asia Rising

Race Overview

Open affair here if you take out Joyful Moments who does look the form way to go here. Just the three starts in Hong Kong but all have been good being placed 2nd at his last two starts and his last run was over this distance at Sha Tin from a similar draw. He gets Joao Moreira in the saddle today which will most likely keep his odds under’s so if you fancy him I would be getting in early. Young Ranger dropped back to this class recently and ran a nice race last start over the 1400m when he went to the line well in running 3rd only 1/2 of a length from the winner. Has trained on well and looks a bit of a chance with Zac Purton in the saddle. Only query is the wide gate and the slow pace but Zac will most likely look to get across early and he does look to have the pace to do just that.  Sparkling Sword has not been very far away since going up to this class recently and with what is expected to be a slow paced race should lead and may very well run a cheeky race at nice odds here.

Race 6: — Time: 7.00am GMT—Distance: 1400m—Class 4

Top Pick: No 10 Bear Pop

Value Selection: No 4 Winner St Paul

Exotic Inclusions: No 11 Master Viking and No 3 Jolly Spring / No 8 Unique Awesome.

Race Overview

Bear Pop was getting home well last start until being held up in the straight and gives the impression that he may be ready to put in a good race looking at that effort as he was only 1 3/4 of a length away in the wash up. Should be at nice each way odds and can run well against this field despite the wide gate. Winner St Paul just the five starts in Hong Kong and he has been consistent and continues to improve. Comes up with a nice gate today and Zac Purton jumps back on board for the first time since his first start which was a failure at Happy Valley when he ran all over the place. But has shown good form since which has all been at Sha Tin. Looks close to breaking through.

Race 7: — Time: 7.35am GMT—Distance: 1600m—Class 3

Top Pick: No 9 Charity Kingdom

Value Selection: No 3 Horse Of Fortune

Exotic Inclusions: No 2 Red Dancer and No 7 Cheeky Too / No 1 Good Choice.

Race Overview

Charity Kingdom has been very consistent over the 1400m at his last three starts at this class and has been closing well on all those occasions. Goes up to the 1600m today and certainly looks like he will appreciate the extra ground today. Retains Zac Purton in the saddle and stays at a nice weight which will certainly help. Solid chance. Horse Of Fortune just the four starts in Hong Kong and the last two were over the Happy Valley mile where he put in decent efforts on both occasions. Comes up with a nice draw today and should once again enjoy a nice run just behind the speed near the rails. Does come across as a decent each way chance today.

Race 8: — Time: 8.05am GMT—Distance: 1600m—Group One

Top Pick: No 1 Able Friend

Value Selection: No 3 Luger

Exotic Inclusions: No 2 Dan Excel and No 4 Rewarding Hero

Race Overview

Only a six horse field but it is all class. Able Friend is certainly the star performer of the season in Hong Kong but I wasn’t completely taken by his last start performance even though he won well but it may have been due to the transition up and down to the 1400m then back to the mile. Did not seem to possess the same very quick turn of foot as he has shown previously but he is without doubt a class act and will be hard to keep out here. Is at the peak of his career and is without doubt a sensational race horse that deserves to have a crack at richer races in the UK. But he will not have it all his own way as Luger has gone from strength to strength since a few set backs earlier this season and has really shown his class. If all had gone well early this season I really did expect he would have gone to Dubai. He should be somewhere near the lead running into the straight and should be the one to run down however Dan Excel who has taken a bit of time to get going in his preparations looks to have been set for this as well and ran a very nice on paced 4th last start over this distance at HKG2 and may very well ensure a decent pace which will play into the hands of the other runners who like to finish hard with the exception of Secret Sham who may try to pinch the race if it is a slower pace than expected. Great race despite the small field and tactics will play a big part.

Race 9: — Time: 8.40pm GMT—Distance: 1000m—Class 2

Top Pick: 1 Not Listenin’ Tome

Value Selection: No 10 Dane Patrol

Exotic Inclusions: No 3 Looks Like A Cat and No 6 Jet wings

Race Overview

Good quality class two sprint here. Not Listenin’ Tome just the one start in Hong Kong and that was over this distance at HKG3 when he ran a very nice on paced race from a draw which was no help what so ever. Gomes up with a much better draw today in gate 11 which is much closer to the grandstand rail. Gets a big hit up in the weights today but he also has a senior hoop in the saddle in Douglas Whyte. Would like to see him over a bit more ground but just the same may have the class to go close here. Dane Patrol is a very under rated runner and has proven that this season with a very honest score card after winning on two occasions and placed in another two and never far away in his other starts. Has very good gate speed and will be in this for a long way.

Race 10: — Time: 9.15pm GMT—Distance: 1200m—Class 3

Top Pick: No: 11 Lucky Year

Value Selection: No 1 Strathmore

Exotic Inclusions: No 7 Spicy Sure and No 8 Lucky Day / No 2 Righteous

                                                         Race Overview

Now this is a very solid Class Three and it is very very competitive but the way Lucky Year won at his first start in Hong Kong he certainly has to be the one to run down here. Up in class today but will trot around with just 115lbs on his back in retaining his last start hoop and a small claim. Comes up with another great draw in gate 2 and should get a very nice run in transit once again. Strathmore won well last start and going on his lead up form prior to that win he has to go in with another very good chance once again today. Certainly been hit hard with the weights but if he carries it he has to go close from a gun gate and Tommy Berry in the saddle. Weight the only issue here. Spicy Sure only the one run in Hong Kong but it was a very pleasing effort running second to Strathmore on that occasion and even though he was well beaten in the wash up there was a lot to like about that run. Comes up with another nice draw today in gate five and should be well placed in the running as a result of that. Overseas form indicates that he should go well at this class.

Race 11: — Time: 9.50pm GMT—Distance: 1400m—Class 3

Top Pick: No: 3 Sky Hero

Value Selection: No 4 Dashing Fellow

Exotic Inclusions: No 5 Secret Command and No 10 Forever Accurate

                                                         Race Overview

Sky Hero only the four races in Hong Kong and all have been very good. Went up to this class and gave them a canning all be it with a light weight. Been hit up in the weights as a result of that run but does appear to have talent and should progress beyond this class if he continues to improve as he has been. Dashing Fellow has been on song all season as well and won well last start at this class and even though up in the weights as a result of that win he has to come under consideration on form alone.

HONG KONG RACING SATURDAY MARCH 21

SHA TIN

Hong Kong Wrap Up

Fantastic racing last Sunday with 4 on top selections getting up and seven out of the 10 races producing exactas on the selections when boxed. Amazing win by Able Friend in the Cup race. Don’t know if he will get a chance at the world stage but if he does watch out as he is certainly something special. The owners love him heaps and it may take a bit of persuading to get him to part from Hong Kong and how can you be more impressed by the win by Luger in the Derby. He was our on top selection and left nothing else a chance over the concluding stages. More to our home stats and our best value selection of the day is running along at just over a 65% e/w strike rate and returning a profit or just over the 60% mark. Stick with them as well as the boxed exacta’s and not only will you have heaps of fun you will do extremely well over the course of the season.

Track and Conditions: Turf C+3 Course. All on the turf with the exception of races and 4 which will be on the All Weather Dirt Track. Track currently rated as Good on both surfaces.

Expected Weather: Cloudy but there will be sunny intervals. Visibility will be relatively low but should not impact on the running of the races. A top temperature of 23 degrees and wind will be from the east to northeast up to and around the 30Kh/m.

Best Bet: Race 10 No 1 Packing Pins

Best Value: Race 2 No 1 Art of Success

Best Exotic Races: Race No 7-8-9-10

Quaddie:-

Race 7: 9-11-8-5 Race 8: 11-2-9 Race 9: 1-9-11-4-12 Race 10: 5

Race 1: — Time: 5.00am GMT—Distance: 1800m—Class 5

Top Pick: No 6 Bachelor Dragon

Value Selection: 8 My Cup Overflows

Exotic Inclusions: No 1 Gold Tartini and No 14 All My Benefit

Race Overview

Very ordinary field to kick of the card today so would not be getting too involved here however Joao has had the pick of the rides once again and when you look at the form well I suppose Dragon Bachelor after dropping back in class recently has to be a reasonable chance here. Hard to go past in this field even though he has not won this season. Does look weighted at his best but should run well just the same in this field. My Cup Overflows Should get a nice on paced run after coming up with the inside draw here. Has fairly good early gate speed which should allow him to sit in a forward position here. This may very well develop into a sit and sprint race which will certainly assist on paced runners.

Race 2: — Time: 5.30am GMT—Distance: 1200m—Class 4

Top Pick: No 6 E-Super

Value Selection: No 1 Art of Success

Exotic Inclusions: No 10 Gallant Rock and No 2 Sunshine Glory

Race Overview

E-Super has been in Hong Kong for a while now and missed a bit of track work with a leg injury but has trialled well since then. This three year old may very well have some promise going on those trials and it would not surprise to see him go very close here. Art of Success Recently dropped back to class four and went well on the first occasion but was bumped from pillar to post last start and as a result was eased out of it. Comes up with a very nice draw in gate 13 which is right on the rails down this 1000m straight today. Should jump well and with Zac Purton in the saddle is certainly expected to put in a good performance here.

Race 3: — Time: 6.00am GMT—Distance: 1400m—Class 4

Top Pick: No 8 Goldweaver

Value Selection: No 10 Jun Hao

Exotic Inclusions: No 5 Fantasticife and No 4 Rising Power / No 2 Optimational Star

Race Overview

Goldweaver is another Zac Purton mount and even though this does look like a very ordinary class five I do expect he will run well on recent form. Always seams to be in the firing line and should get a nice trail from gate 4 today. Still looks well weighted at 125Lbs and certainly has to be a bit of a chance here. Jun Hao has never been too far away in most of his runs since coming to Hong Kong and looking at his last three starts he has to be an inclusion here at each way odds. Very open here with the exotic inclusions all having a chance as well.

Race 4: — Time: 6.30am GMT—Distance: 1600m—Class 4

Top Pick: No 10 Modern Fortune

Value Selection: No 2 Easy Success

Exotic Inclusions: No 7 Glorious Avenue and No 3 Hurry Hurry Up / No 8 Jade Pippo.

Race Overview

Modern Fortune ran a pretty good race last start with the same weight he has today and comes up with the rails draw once again. He looks a solid chance here but he may be a bit unders with Joao Moreira in the saddle. Easy Success just gets in ok at barrier 7 and has been fairly consistent recently at this class and does look to be a nice chance once again today. Weighted at his best but he does have Brett Prebble in the saddle who is the master of the weave so he should be able to be well placed in the running. Appeals as a bit of a chance here at nice each way odds.

Race 5: — Time: 7.00am GMT—Distance: 1800m—Class 3

Top Pick: No 8 Ah Bo

Value Selection: No 11 Kids and Win

Exotic Inclusions: No 3 Heroic Guru and No 13 Victoria Charter

Race Overview

Ah Bo has never been very far away and gets a chance to break his Hong Kong duck here. Drew a bit wide last start but still closed off well. Draws in a bit closer today and carries the same weight. Retains Joao Moreira in the saddle who has had a couple of rides on him now and been close. Should get a nice trail in the running as well. Kids and Win has been at this class previously and dropped back to class five and picked up a couple of very nice wins. Still gets into this well weighted and has to be a bit of a chance here as he will trot around with 118Lbs on his back and retains the same hoop. But it is an open class four just the same.

Race 6: — Time: 7.00am GMT—Distance: 1200m—Class 3

Top Pick: No 2 Country Melody

Value Selection: No 1 Dane Patrol

Exotic Inclusions: No 5 Beauty Kingdom and No 10 No Money No Talk

Race Overview

Just have to love these 1000m sprints at Sha Tin. Country Melody has only had the four starts in Hong Kong and won his first two. Went up in the weights as a result of that but has still been very consistent just the same and does appeal as another very good chance today. Drawn a bit better than mid field which is not too bad and of course he has Joao Moreira in the saddle. Dane Patrol is an eight year old now but is still sprinting in great fashion. Went very close last start with Jack Wong in the saddle last start and get’s another 10 Lb’s off today with Jack retaining the ride. That will certainly help as he is up in the weights after that last start performance. But when you look at his overall form this season he has been very consistent and has raced very well over the odds on most occasions. Certainly appeals as good value here at current odds of around the 6/1 mark.

Race 7: — Time: 8.00am GMT—Distance: 1400m—Class – Group One

Top Pick: No 9 Multimax

Value Selection: No 11 Thor The Greatest

Exotic Inclusions: No 8 Kynam and No 5 Billante

Race Overview

Multimax is a very improving three year old and has adjusted to the class rise last start. Ran a very nice 4th on that occasion all be it with a very light weight. Has the ability to go close today with a senior hoop in Douglas Whyte in the saddle. Come up with another good draw in gate four and should enjoy a very nice trip from that draw. Thor The Greatest well it does look like they have picked the right time for him to go up in class. Not only does he drop 9 Lbs due to the class rise he also gets a further 10 Lbs off with Jack Wong in the saddle. Will be very close to the pace with that weight and can certainly run a very cheeky race here.

Race 8: — Time: 8.35am GMT—Distance: 1400m—Class 3

Top Pick: No 11 So Caffe

Value Selection: No 2 Red Dancer

Exotic Inclusions: No 9 Supreme Profit and No 8 Colossus

Race Overview

So Caffe has always shown promise but has not broken through this season. Gets his chance today against this lot and comes up with another nice draw today in gate 3 which was what he had last start and closed off very well and was not far off the winner on that occasion. Has not got great early gate speed but will be getting home hard late and he has Joao Moreira in the saddle as well today.  Red Dancer is a good performer over this distance at this class having won twice this season over the Sha Tin mile. Was working home well again last start from a wide gate. Gets in closer today and retains his last start hoop. Can certainly get in the finish here once again today at nice each way odds.

Race 9: — Time: 9.10am GMT—Distance: 2000m—Class – HKG1

Top Pick: No 1 Key Witness

Value Selection: No 9 Lang Tai Sing

Exotic Inclusions: No 4 Teofilo Calvo and No 11 Supreme Falcon / No 12 Lovely Delovely

Race Overview

Key Witness is a very good on paced runner but will most likely be taken back today from the wide gate due to the early inside pace in this race. Four year old who is really showing his form with a very nice win at Class one last start. Back to class two today and carries a similar weight to what he won at class two two starts back. Douglas Whyte has been on him on most occasions and sticks with him today. Lang Tai Sing is a nice type and has never been far away and is mostly at nice odds as well. Closed off extremely well from a wide gate last start and was less than 2 lengths away on the post. Different set up today after coming up with the rails draw and should get a very nice trail in the running from that position. Certainly has appeal at each way odds here.

Race 10: — Time: 9.50pm GMT—Distance: 1400m—Class 2

Top Pick: No: 5 Packing Pins

Value Selection: No 12 presidentparamount

Exotic Inclusions: No 13 Mah May Baby and No 4 Secret Weapon / No 1 Big Four

                                                         Race Overview

Packing Pins does possess good gate speed and should be eased into a nice slot in the running from gate two. You can forget he went around last start as shortly after the jump he was caught wide and was unable to settle infield and as a result was forced to race four wide for almost the entire trip and yielded ground in the straight. Form prior to that was extremely good and certainly looks up to this with a similar weight today and Joao Moreira in the saddle. Certainly a bit of a puzzle after you take out the on top selection here but we may find a bit of value just the same. Presidentparamount goes up in class after two very good performances at class four. He has drawn wide in gate 12 but does look very well suited at this distance and may very well get a bit more but for today he certainly looks very nice odds and would not have to improve too much to get into the finish here. Open race to finish off the card today.

Sha Tin 8th March Horse Racing Tips

HONG KONG RACING SUNDAY 8 March 1915

SHA TIN

Hong Kong Wrap Up

It’s another great days racing at Sha Tin today and yet another group race with the Hong Kong Group Three Macau Cup which is always a hotly contested race and nothing has changed this time around.

Arpinati does look extremely well placed here at the weights in the Cup race. Comes up with gate one which will suite his racing style. Ran a very impressive race at HKG1 two starts back when he finished not far away in 4th position. Certainly looks suited here and he does have Joao Moreira in the saddle. Not an overly strong HKG3 but very competitive just the same. Super Lifeline has been racing at Class 1 or above for a while now and has done very well in the process. Comes up with a nice draw today in gate 4 and on current form looks ok at the weights and they have lost nothing in having Mattie Chadwick in the saddle for the first time today. Looks a very good chance.

The last four races today look to be great races and our form is done and dusted and I hope our results continue as we hit 6 exactas last Sunday and had a great day so follow the form and let’s take it to the bookies. The exotics look to hold some value today so best of luck if having a go.

Track and Conditions: Turf  C+3 Course with the exception of Races 1-3-7  which will be on the All Weather Dirt Track.

Expected Weather:          Mainly cloudy with a few mist patches in the morning which should clear during the day. There will be a top temperature of 21 degrees and the wind will be from the east gusting up to and around the 30Km/h mark. This will create a cross to head wind down the straight which will aid on paced runners but it is expected to be a fair playing ground just the same.

Best Bet: Race 3 No 3 Sergeant Titanium

Best Value: Race 8 No 1 Disciples Twelve

Exotic Races: Race No’s 7-8-9-10

Quaddie:-

Race 7: 1-3-8-6-7 Race 8: 8-9-2-1-3-7 Race 9: 9-3 Race 10: 9-7

Race 1: — Time: 5.00am GMT—Distance: 1650m—Class 5 – AWT

Top Pick: No 5 La Cote De Bleu

Value Selection: No 1 Mr Marc

Exotic Inclusions: No 2 Sledge Hammer and No 6 South China Command / No 7 Croatia

Race Overview

La Cote De Bleu Produced a nice win over this distance on this surface last start after some fairly consistent form throughout the season. That run was from a wide draw in gate 12 and gets in a fair bit closer today in gate 7.Certainly looks a good chance once again today, retains Mattie Chadwick in the saddle and still looks in well at the weights. Mister Marc had been very consistent at class five this season and went up to class four last start to taste the waters again but was well and truly run over in the latter parts of that race which was over the 2200m on the turf. His previous form at Happy Valley which does lend itself to the AWT has been good along with some nice performances on the AWT. Certainly looks much better suited today despite having to carry top weight. Has the new Kid on the block in the saddle in Jack Wong and as a result will get a 10 Lb weight drop. Jack has had a fair bit of experience in New Zealand and I am sure he will go well.

Race 2: — Time: 5.30am GMT—Distance: 1000m—Class 4

Top Pick: No 2 Diamond Master

Selection: No 4 The Prince

Exotic Inclusions: No 8 Lean Journey and No 1 Addole / No 11 Diamond Mysterious

Race Overview

Diamond Master has been in reasonable form since arriving in Hong Kong however had excuses last start and he does come up with a very nice draw today in gate 12 and Neil Callan is back in the saddle. Carries top weight once again today but does appear to be much better placed here. The Prince has not gone over this trip this season and the last time he did go over this trip it was at class three so he does look much better suited today. Comes up with a nice draw in gate 11 and should have enough speed to take up a very nice position in the running. Certainly has appeal here.

Race 3: — Time: 6.00am GMT—Distance: 1650m—Class 4

Top Pick: No 4 Happy Moments

Value Selection: No 2 Expedite

Exotic Inclusions: No 7 Harbour Delight and No 1 Health Wise

Race Overview

Happy Moments certainly has the ability to be hot and cold but if on song he can certainly get into the finish here. Joao is sticking with him however he does not have a great gate and will need a bit of luck early. However this field is a bit ordinary and his hoop may play a good part here. Expedite has bounced up and down between class 3 and class 4 this season and ran a very nice race last start on this surface at this class last start. Had top weight on that occasion and gets a little of weight relief today and most important he retains Zac Purton in the saddle. Draw a bit of a query but should go well just the same.

Race 4: — Time: 6.30am GMT—Distance: 1400m—Class 4

Top Pick: No 2 Dashing Fortune

Value Selection: No 9 Athena Baby

Exotic Inclusions: No 3 Penny Lane and No 1 Sunny Pearl

Race Overview

Dashing Fortune Has been up and down in class since arriving in Hong Kong and does look better suited here. Just has to get a nice run in transit which he should get from gate 4 today. Even though he was 6th last start he was only 1 1/4 lengths from the winner and he does have Zac Purton in the saddle today for the very first time. Athena Baby just the three runs in Hong Kong and all have been fairly even and does show promise. Only needs to lift a bit to be right in the finish here. Comes up with a nice draw in gate 5 and has Joao Moreira in the saddle for the first time.

Race 5: — Time: 7.00am GMT—Distance: 1800m—Class 4

Top Pick: No 3 Sergeant Titanium

Value Selection: No 1 Faster More

Exotic Inclusions: No 2 Percy Jackson and No 5 Electronic Phoenix

Race Overview

Sergeant Titanium did very well last start after coming from a near impossible position to get up on the line. If he gets an open shot at them today he has to be right in this once again. Draw the only queary but he does no how to find the line. Faster More is dropping back in class today for the first time this season and his class three form was not too bad at all as he was placed on two occasions and ran 4th on another three. His form last season was all at class four and he was most consistent and went up in class after winning over the Sha Tin mile by a good margin. Has to be a certain consideration today at each way odds even with top weight. Neil Callan rides.  Electronic Phoenix is an interesting runner here. He has only had the three starts in Hong Kong and has been moving up in distance and may even appreciate longer but he was starting to get interested last start and made up a fair bit of ground over the concluding stages. Does look like he will be even better placed over this distance today. Gets a couple of Lb’s off his back today with the allowance so will be 5 Lbs better off than last start. Should be each way odds here and a nice inclusion as he does look an improving type as he steps up in distance. At current odds of around the 18/1 mark he goes in as my BOLTER of the day here.

Race 6: — Time: 7.35am GMT—Distance: 1600m—Class 2

Top Pick: No 1 Brilliant Shine

Value Selection: No 2 Santa Fe Sun

Exotic Inclusions: No 14 Principal and No 1 Travel Brother

Race Overview

Brilliant Shine has won all three starts this season and is a very improving type. Only just got up last start at this class over the 1400m and it does look like a good move to go up to the 1600m today as he has been closing off extremely well and does look well placed here. Has to be a strong chance if he gets the distance but it is expected and he does retain Zac Purton in the saddle. Santa Fe Sun Does look well placed in a race of this type. Comes up with a nice draw in gate four and should suit his running style and get a nice trail in the running. Very nice closing third last start over this distance and would only have to repeat that effort to be a very good chance once again today.

Race 7: — Time: 8.05am GMT—Distance: 1200m—Class 3

Top Pick: No 1 Startling Power

Value Selection: No 3 Dehere’s The Love

Exotic Inclusions: No 8 Hidden Value and No 6 Able Warrior / No 7 Hearts Keeper

Race Overview

Interesting training tactics here and it is always worth looking at. Startling Power has won well with Joao Moreira in the saddle at his last two starts and does look to still hold a fair bit of potential. Gets six Lb weight rise today but it will be offset with a 5lb weight allowance with the jockey change. Drawn well and does look a very good hope here. Well ! Joao is off him and onto Dehere’s The Love but is no stranger to this horse and has ridden him on a fair few occasions as well so he does know this horse and has to go in as a very positive chance in that situation. Drawn exceptionally well in gate one as well. Looks like a nice exotic race as the next three in line all have chances.

Race 8: — Time: 8.35am GMT—Distance: 1000m—Class 3

Top Pick: No 8 Lovely Deloverly e/w

Value Selection: No 1 Disciples Twelve

Exotic Inclusions: No 2 My Little Friend and No 9 Dane Patrol / No 3 Supreme Falcon

Race Overview

Lovely Deloverly is a very consistent sprinter who goes well over this course. Has to be a very good chance after coming up with gate 13 which is right in the rails section of this course. Gets in extremely well at the weights after a 7 Lb allowance and will trot around today with just 122lb’s on his back. Just has to be pointed in the right direction to go close here. Disiples Twelve does perform very well over this distance and at this class. Won over the Happy Valley 1000m last start with top weight but more importantly he ran a very solid race the previous start at Sha Tin down the 1000m straight. Comes up with another very nice draw in gate 10 which will see him very well positioned down the grandstand rail and even though Zac is not on him today he gets a bit of weight relief as well. No 9 Dane Patrol goes around with just 115Lbs on his back with the new hoop in Jack Wong in the saddle. He can certainly be hard to run down with that weight. No 3 Supreme Falcon even though going over this distance for the first time is far too good at this class to leave out and has came up with the best draw in gate 14 which is the rails over this course. I also like the newcomer No 7 High Five but only room for so many but if going for a Trifecta or 1st 4 looks like a possible inclusion. Watch the markets. Currently 9/1.

Race 9: — Time: 9.10pm GMT—Distance: 1400m—Class – Hong Kong Group Three

Top Pick: No Arpinati

Value Selection: No 3 Super Lifeline

Exotic Inclusions: No 1 All You Wish and No 11 Pikachu

Race Overview

Arpinati does look extremely well placed here at the weights.

Race 10: — Time: 9.45pm GMT—Distance: 1400m—Class 3

Top Pick: No: 9 Packing Pins

Value Selection: No 7 Up And Coming

Exotic Inclusions: No 1 Dr Good Habit and No 2 Ho In One

                                                         Race Overview

Nice race here with a few chances however I do like Packing Pins. Always liked this horse since arriving in Hong Kong. Only the three starts but has never been worse than 2nd at this class and does look to be a certain chance once again today if he can handle the wide draw in gate 13. Should be eased back but what he does have in his favour is that the pace should be good enough to close off well and put him in with a good chance. Up And Coming has really picked up the bit since moving up to this distance. Just the four runs this season but he did win at this class over this distance last start and still looks very well weighted today. Retains Douglas Whyte in the saddle and is expected to come up at decent odds.

Sha Tin Racing Sunday 1st February Tips

HONG KONG RACING SUNDAY 1 February

SHA TIN

Hong Kong Wrap Up

As expected it was a great day’s racing at Sha Tin last Sunday and we hit all four on top selections in the last four races which provided some great entertainment even though the value was not always there. Peniaphobia got home in the 1000m sprint which was a fantastic effort and then Able Friend did it in style over the Sha Tin Mile in the Cup Race. He certainly looks a very impressive type and Joao Moreira never even moved on him. In a race which was void of pace he came from 2nd last and absolutely swamped them careering away to win with ease and in actual fact Joao just patted him on the neck over the last 100m and he won in a canter against a field of class milers. The real question is where does he go next? May be the Doncaster in Sydney or is it off to Dubai. The owners are a bit up in the air at the moment and he may very well stay in Hong Kong but he looks far too good to not have a go on the World Stage. Back at Sha Tin today and all racing is on the turf and once again it looks to be a very entertaining day especially over the last four races where there are some very nice up and coming race horses who will certainly rev up this day at Sha Tin which always provides great racing and great entertainment. Enjoy the form guide and get amongst the winners.

Track and Conditions: Turf – C Course. Track will be rated Good.

Expected Weather: Mainly cloudy with a top temperature of 17 degrees. Wind will be from the east to northeast gusting up to 30 to 40 Km/h so it will create a head wind down the straight which will favour on paced runners however closers will get their chance as well if making ground down the back straight.

Best Bet: Race 8 No 1 Tonyboy

Best Value: Race 9 No 3 Travel First

Exotic Races: Race No’s 7-8-9-10

Quaddie:-

Race 7: 6-1-4 Race 8: 1-4   Race 9: 13-3-5-6 Race 10: 5-6-11-10-13

Race 1: — Time: 5.00am GMT—Distance: 1400m—Class 5

Top Pick: No 1 Best Jade Triumph

Value Selection: No 11 Jun Hao

Exotic Inclusions: No 9 Optimization Star and No 4 Costa Del Son / No 5 Intellectual Glide

Race Overview

Best Jade Triumph heads back to class five today after putting together a few runs at class four and performed ok on those occasions but does look much better suited today. The last time he raced at this class he had two starts and recorded a win and a 2nd with a similar weight to what he has today and they were both over this distance at Sha Tin. Should be in the finish here at some point with Brett Prebble in the saddle. Jun Hao Has been going along well this season all be it at class five. His last two races in particular have been very good and finished a close up 2nd on both occasions. Carries the same weight as last start today and only has to maintain recent form to be a good chance once again with Douglas Whyte back in the saddle.

Race 2: — Time: 5.30am GMT—Distance: 1000m—Class 4

Top Pick: No 8 Massive Move

Selection: No 2 Art Of Success

Exotic Inclusions: No 1 Diamond Master and No 4 Elite Spirit

Race Overview

Difficult race to assess here as better chance runners have not drawn well and the better gates have gone to runners with not so good form however you may get each way odds about Massive Move who has drawn not too bad in gate 9. He has only had the one run in Hong Kong and that was over this distance when he ran a good race from a similar gate. Actually drops one Lb on that effort and his track work has been good and I really do expect he will go well today.  Art Of Success drops back to this class today for the first time and has to be a consideration as he hung in there at class three last start with Joao Moreira in the saddle and interesting enough he has stuck with him with the class drop today. Has to be a good pointer. Drawn a bit wide but he does possess good gate speed and with a bit of luck can be well positioned in the running.

Race 3: — Time: 6.00am GMT—Distance: 1400m—Class 4

Top Pick: No 3 Sugar City

Value Selection: No 6 Amazing Always

Exotic Inclusions: No 13 Motif and No 5 Unbeatable Guts / No 2 Wah May Baby

Race Overview

Sugar City does look to be knocking on the door for a win as all his runs this season have been at this class and never far away. Drawn well in gate 6 and should get a nice trail in the running. It appears they are certainly trying to get him a win as they have Joao Moreira in the saddle today and he does look well placed in this field just the same. Amazing Always is a consistent type at this class and is never far away. Recent form has been good and recorded a nice win last start from a very wide gate. Comes up with the rails today draw which will most likely mean a change in tactics and will most likely be ridden closer to the pace today. May need a bit of luck on the bend but he does have Brett Prebble who is the master of the weave on his back today for the first time.

Race 4: — Time: 6.30am GMT—Distance: 1800m—Class 5

Top Pick: No 1 Namjong Turbo

Value Selection: No Triumphant Dragon

Exotic Inclusions: No 6 Dragon and No 3 Cool Pal / No 7 Yeung Sing

Race Overview

Very difficult race to assess and not one you want to get too involved in. Gone for a bit of value here. Namjong Turbo either class four or class five he is never far away and has reached top weight for this class but never the less his recent form has been solid and only has to maintain that to give this a shake. Likes this distance and retains his last start hoop so he will get a small claim as well. Triumphant Dragon has been in very solid form this season all be it at class five as he has won two and placed in another two from his four starts. Goes over this distance for the first time today but has been closing off at all his starts well recently which indicates he should get the extra distance today. Always has the best hoops in the saddle and no different today with Brett Prebble as his pilot. Dragon, Cool Pal and Yeung Sing should all get their chances if good enough.

Race 5: — Time: 7.00am GMT—Distance: 1200m—Class 4

Top Pick: No 3 Sensation

Value Selection: No 2 Multimax

Exotic Inclusions: No 1 Telecom Boss and No 5 Bear Rapper / No 4 Dashing Fortune

Race Overview

Sensation comes up with a nice draw today in gate two and retains Zac Purton in the saddle and does appeal as a bit of a chance here. Went up in distance to the 1400m last start which and he didn’t really work into it as expected all be it running a decent race. Looks better suited to this distance today and I really do expect he can get into the finish here. Multimax just the two runs in Hong Kong and went to the line well to win over this distance last start at this class. Looks a bit of a chance once again today even though he has gone up in the weights. Retains his last start hoop so he will get a nice claim which still puts him in well today. Should go well judging on his last start performance.

Race 6: — Time: 7.35am GMT—Distance: 1000m—Class 3

Top Pick: No 3 Jetwings

Value Selection: No 2 Lovely Delovely

Exotic Inclusions: No 11 Good Luck Boy and No 9 Happy Meteor / No 14 Touch Go

Race Overview

Interesting race with a few runners looking a bit out of their comfort zone but looking at current form then we have to look at Jetwings just the one run in Hong Kong and he blew them away at that start which was over this distance. Did not draw well on that occasion and nothing has changed today with an outside draw which will make it a bit tricky so will need luck but he does look like a very nice type and a certain chance today as he does still look well weighted. Lovely Delovely has to go in with a strong chance once again today as well. Drawn ok in gate nine which is fairly close in and should get him into a good position in the running down this sprint shoot. Scratched last start as was found to be lame in the left fore but has undergone a full vet examination since and track work has been fine. Expect he will go very well today.

Race 7: — Time: 8.05am GMT—Distance: 1200m—Class 1

Top Pick: No 6 Key Witness

Value Selection: No 1 Domineer

Exotic Inclusions: No 4 Super Jockey and No 3 Exciting Dream

Race Overview

Key Witness does look like a very nice type and continues to improve. Won at class 2 last start with 131 Lbs and gets 11 Lbs off his back today with the class rise. Extremely consistent race horse and should go very close here today. Comes up with a very nice draw in gate two and retains Douglas Whyte in the saddle. Domineer is mostly a Happy Valley and AWT runner but has also performed well on this surface previously. Too consistent to leave out of the equation here as his form this season has been very strong and came up with a good win at this class last start. Goes up in the weights as a result of that but when you look at this field he still looks well in it.

Race 8: — Time: 8.35am GMT—Distance: 1200m—Class 3

Top Pick: No 1 Tonyboy

Value Selection: No 4 Da Vinci

Exotic Inclusions: No 8 Sight Seeing and No 12 Bossiee / No 5 Cleaver Beaver

Race Overview

Fair few chances here but I am going to go with Tonyboy his first up run this season was nothing short of sensational for this class of runner at Sha Tin and I was surprised to see that they elected to run him at Happy Valley last start as he came up with a wide gate on that occasion and simply could not make up the ground around the tight circuit. Looks much better suited at Sha Tin and will be closing hard. Da Vinci only the two starts in Hong Kong and both have been very good indicating that he will go well at this class. Comes up with another nice draw today in gate four and still looks in nice at the weights. Certain chance here retaining his regular hoop.

Race 9: — Time: 9.10pm GMT—Distance: 1400m—Class 3

Top Pick: No 13 Sky Hero

Value Selection: No 3 Travel First

Exotic Inclusions: No 5 Too Cheeky and No 6 Brilliant Dream

Race Overview

Sky Hero does look a nice type, is up in class here all be it he is jumping from restricted class 4 mostly and has the ability to get into the finish here and he does look very well suited at this distance. Gets a small weight reduction of 4 Lbs but most important he retains his regular hoop in Douglas Whyte. Should get a very nice run in transit and certainly has appeal today. Travel First just the two starts in Hong Kong and both have been at Sha Tin. Comes up with a nice draw today in gate 2 and should get a nice trial in the running and be suited by the pace today after running an nice on paced race over the 1600m last start. Former UK runner how should not take too long before breaking through in Hong Kong.

Race 10: — Time: 9.45pm GMT—Distance: 1600m—Class 2

Top Pick: No 5 Contentment

Value Selection: No 6 Club Life

Exotic Inclusions: No 11 Redkirk Warrior and No 10 Celestial Smile / NO 13 Renaissance Art

                                                         Race Overview

Contentment just cannot come up with a good draw and is out in the sticks once again today in gate 12 but he has won all three starts from wide gates since arriving in Hong Hong and his last being at class three when he bounced and lead all the way over the 1400m. That was an extremely good effort and even though he is up in class today he has to be a very strong consideration on that effort. Gets into this with a nice weight and retains his regular hoop. Club Life has really improved this season and recorded a very nice win last start over this distance from a wide gate and in fact all his last three starts have been from wide gates over this distance and has performed well on all occasions. Comes up with a very nice draw today in gate 3 and still looks ok at the weights despite the class rise as this field is not an overly strong class two. Should be closer to the pace today and has to go in as another good chance here at value odds.

International meeting in Hong Kong

It has been billed as The Greatest Show On Turf and I have to agree it will be a sensational day at Sha Tin race course tomorrow Sunday 14 December 2014 with the best Jockeys from around the world and some of the best horses ever assembled in one meet at this current moment.

It is going to be a sensational days racing and we have no less than four International Group One races. I will be attempting to put the best form to you for those races to give you the best possible insight and enjoy Hong Kong racing at its best as it really is apart from so many countries a very special and well presented horse racing event not only on International Day but every weekend throughout the year with the exception of about 8 weeks when we have the off season due to the weather.

Current conditions out of Hong Kong is that it will be a fine and dry day, mostly sunny with a bit of cloud later in the day and a top temperature of 19 degrees. The wind will be from the north east at about 20 Km/h and gusting up to 40Km/h late in the day. This will create a direct head wind down the straight and will assist on paced runners. The track is currently rated as Good but I suspect it will be Good to Firm and it will be perfect for racing and there should be some good times recorded.

So we have four very special Group I’s so let’s get started

Race 4: The Longines Hong Kong Vase 2400m Group One

The selections are No 1 Flintshire (7/4 Skybet) with the value being No 8 Willie Cazals (10/1 Skybet)and the exotic inclusions are No 5 Red Cadeaux (6/1 Skybet) and No 12 Snow Sky (6/1 Skybet).

Awesome race. Flintshire This is his best distance and has to be a very strong consideration today. This UK four year old does look one of the better overseas chances today. Has Max Guyon who is one of the best hoops to come out of France in the saddle. Drawn well and should get a nice smother in the running and certainly looks suited at set weights. Willie Cazals deserves a serious look here as he has run some cracking races over this distance all be it at lesser class races but not by much. Appears to have certainly been set for this with two runs this time in over the 1800m and his last start over the 2000m and he has been closing off very well on all occasions. Just have to throw him in with a good chance to break his group duck. Should get a nice smother in the running and retains Douglas Whyte in the saddle. You cannot leave out Red Cadeaux as this evergreen stayer just loves to race and has performed extremely well everytime he has raced at Sha Tin. He just thrives on racing and is in sparkling form once again and will be ready to go once again today. Has to be a real chance at set weights. Snow Sky is a lightly raced three year old colt and is certainly an Improving type who does appear to be getting better with racing. Gets into this with a very nice weight and has very solid UK form. Drawn well to get a nice smother in the running as he does appear to like to sit and sprint. May go well today if he does not get too far back in the running but that should not be an issue in a field of this size.

Race 5: The Longines Hong Kong Sprint 1200m Group One

The selections are: No 8 Peniaphobia (15/2 Skybet) from No 9 Aerovolicity(11/2 Coral) and add Lucky Nine and No 5 Buffering for the exotics.

This is quality and looks to be a sensational race. Peniaphobia may very well be the real deal here as he has certainly caught them off guard on a couple of occasions this season in Hong Kong. Recorded a very nice win over this distance at G2 last start and has never been off the mark since arriving in Hong Kong only being out of a place on one occasion and just keeps on improving. Drawn well and looks a real chance on recent form with Douglas Whyte in the saddle. Aerovolicity was knocked from pillar to post last start and you can certainly forget that run. Previous starts have been extremely good and does appeal as a bit of a chance today. Has to be at each way odds here but can surprise if he get the right trial. Lucky Nine Cannot be left out of this race. Loves Sha Tin and is a champion sprinter. Has had mucus problems throughout his career but his track work recently has been first class indicating that he is ready to race today. He has came up with a very nice draw as well in gate four which will also entice his followers. Always a serious threat at set weights and Brett Prebble knows him like the back of his hand. Of the others well Sterling City on his best form would certainly go well here today as he has came up with a great draw in gate three but has not really measured up this time in and you would have to take on trust. Smart Volatility and Golden Harvest also have chances but drawn very wide. The Best of the overseas runners do look this way. Buffering They said he should have came over last year and I am inclined to agree as he was in his best career form. Now a seven year old he has taken time to wind up this time in but is now peaking and looks right in this up to his neck. Drawn ok in gate 8 and will be taken forward as usual and be the one they have to run down. Looked a picture of health coming off the plane and has settled in well. Will certainly give this a huge shake as I really do feel he will be suited by this track and the conditions of the day. The headwind down the straight will be an asset as he is expected to get around the bend and make them chase. At current odds he goes in as my BOLTER of the meet as if he is on song he can certainly cause an upset here. But what is evident is that even though a long way out from start time he is drifting and is certainly a huge quote compared to his ability so I would be certainly be keeping a big watch on the markets with this one as there may be an issue behind the scenes.

Race 7: The Longines Hong Kong Mile 1600m Group One

Selections are No 1 Able Friend  (11/10 Skybet) from No 5 Ambitious Dragon (16/1 Bet365) as the value and add No 2 Gold-Fun and No 6 Fiero / No 3 Glorious Days for the exotics.

Able Friend Looks a very good chance once again today and the only query is the wide gate but there is a long stretch before the first bend and should have time to get into position before reaching that point. The pace up front should not be too solid and may very well develop into a sprint home which may also suit. He has been placed at this class from gate 14 previously at this class and distance under set weights as is the situation today and is in sparkling form with a very solid win over this distance at Sha Tin last start at Group II and retains Joao Moreia in the saddle. Ambitious Dragon New Zealand breed gelding who has been a champion race horse in Hong Kong. Lightly raced but had issues and was off the scene for 18 months but has came back as an eight year old and he has shown that he still has the ability to mix it with the best and has been placed on both occasions since resuming. Once at HKG2 and the other at G2 and both over this distance. Should get a nice run in transit and has to come under consideration today at set weights and he gets the gun UK hoop in Ryan Moore in the saddle who is himself in awesome form. Gold-Fun has to be an inclusion today the way he has been going. Rarely runs a bad race and has been right at the top of his game once again this season. Ran a very nice 2nd behind Able Friend last start and should get a nice run in transit from gate six. Looks a real chance at set weights with Douglas Whyte retaining the ride once again. Fiero is one of Japan’s best milers and ran a super race in the Group One Championship Mile in Japan and was just piped on that occasion. Has one of Japan’s best Jockeys in the saddle in Yuichi Fukunaga in the saddle. Should get a nice run in transit and will be putting in over the concluding stages. Glorious Days has a very good record at this class and distance and cannot be ruled out even though he goes in first up today as he has won first up at this class and distance previously. Certain exotic inclusion. If the hot pot gets rolled here the exotics should pay well.

Race 8: The Longines Hong Kong Cup 2000m Group One

Selections are No 3 Military Attack(5/1 Ladbrokes) from No 5 California Memory (25/1 Skybet) as the value and add No 2 Designs On Rome and No 8 Farraaj and No 4 Blazing Speed for the exotics.

Military Attack previous group I winner over this distance and has begun this season in fine style as well. Just the two starts and a bit of a surprise to see him get up first up over the 1600m but he is a class horse and looks to be  in very good form this time in as well. Ran a very nice lead up race over this distance at G2 last start and was only beaten by a head on that occasion. Very similar field in a lot of ways to that race and he is expected to get a nice trail in the running today. Zac Purton retains the ride and has to go in with a very good hope here. California Memory has had a similar preparation to Designs On Rome and has been stepping up in distance and ran a very nice closing race to finish 4th last start over this distance at this track. Only 3/4 lengths off the winner on that occasion and should be peaking today. Will be back but will be running on and if there is a chance he will take it at nice odds. Designs On Rome has had three runs in this time up and has been stepping up in distance with every run. Looked ready last start and closed off very well over this distance at G2 and even though he finished 5th he was only 3/4 of a length from the winner on that occasion in a blanket finish. Should be right at the top of his game for today’s race and certainly appears to have been set for this race today. Should get a nice smother in the running and retains Joao Moreia in the saddle. Farraaj Irish breed 5 year old who certainly has class and is an international player as he has recently travelled to the southern hemisphere searching to pick up a prestigious Group Race. Performed well in Australia and in particular in the G1 Mackinnon Stakes when he was placed 3rd on that occasion over the 2000m in a top class field. Will get the ground to suite today and has the very talented UK based Italian hoop in Andrea Atzeni in the saddle. Blazing Speed has the ability to sneak under the radar on occasions and looks a nice exotic inclusion. Just got up last start at G2 over this distance and certainly has appeal at set weights once again today.
