Boxing Tips

Betting on boxing may not have quite the same following as in the 70’s and 80’s but is still popular with sports bettors. Most bookmakers will still accommodate those wishing to place a bet on the major televised fights world wide and the developments in live internet betting has opened up new markets for boxing betting.

Turnover in the UK on professional bouts has increased in recent years with the success of British fighters on the world stage. The Olympics in London 2012 also gave the sport extra coverage and it seems to be enjoying something of a revival.

By far the most popular market is still match betting with straight forward head-to-head prices on the most important fights. Where a fight may seem a bit one-sided, there are plenty of other options for the punter to consider. Predicting in which round the fight will end has always been particularly popular with far more attractive odds on offer than in the match market. Punters can use their expertise to predict where a fight is most likely to end and back 2 or 3 rounds to give themselves a greater chance of coming out in profit.… Read More

Punters can use their expertise to predict where a fight is most likely to end and back 2 or 3 rounds to give themselves a greater chance of coming out in profit.

There are also plenty of variables on round betting including the over/under set number of rounds format. This works the same way as trying to predict how many goals there might be in a football match. Sports betting companies will also offer these bets with the rounds split into groups of 3 so, for example, you can take a price if you think the bout will end between rounds 6 and 9. Some sportsbooks split the rounds into halves i.e. one minute and thirty seconds to give even great options on the precise end of the fight.

You can also predict the precise method of victory. If you believe that you are backing a hard puncher against a fighter who is suspect to a knockout, you can back your judgement in this particular market. If you bet on the exchanges, you can also lay or take bets against a fighter that you feel is going to struggle. Before you enter into this sort of betting you must take time to read the rules carefully as you stand to lose multiples of your original stake.

Boxing betting, as with other sports betting, requires a good understanding of the rules. In general terms, all fights must take place within 7 days of the officially scheduled time for bets to be valid and are deemed to have started after the bell for the opening round. Any changes to the scheduled number of rounds will usually void all bets and a knockout or KO is usually taken to mean by knockout, technical knockout or disqualification (unless otherwise stated).
